On February 24, as part of the The James K. Binder Lectureship in Literature series featured in the UC San Diego Events Calendar, Mr. Ali Benmakhlouf will explore the intellectual dialogue between Averroes and Maimonides.

Living in 12th century Andalusia without ever meeting, both philosophers undertook a profound task: translating religious motives into philosophical argument. Yet they did so through distinct methods, intellectual tools, and historical circumstances.

This lecture revisits their shared concern and the challenges inherent in moving from revelation to reason.
