Pr. Ali Benmakhlouf
The Union of Architects of Africa (AUA), Rabat, Morocco
July 4th & 5th, 2022
The Union of Architects of Africa (AUA) has chosen Morocco as the host country for its 13th congress. The congress was held in Rabat under the theme of : The Architect and the New Challenges Facing Africa, with the slogan “In Africa we believe”. Morocco has been chosen as the host country because of its commitment and its real and concrete roots in Africa through its geographical position, its socio-economic investments and its achievements in various strategic fields. The theme chosen for the Rabat congress places the architect’s profession in the context of the many issues and challenges facing the African continent. These challenges are of several kinds: environmental and ecological, urban and architectural, identity and cultural, and socio-political. Architecture is not only at the heart of these challenges; it reflects them. It reflects the evolution and mutations of an entire continent. It also reflects its richness.
Ali Benmakhlouf, a Moroccan philosopher and thinker, spoke on the theme of “What reality should be accorded to cities’ past? The challenge of places of memory” on July 4, 2022.
